Hello Tyrone Family,

Just a note to reach out and provide some new information. Your teachers have been diligently preparing for the return to instruction beginning on Monday, April 6. If you have not heard from your teacher please reach out to them through email, text, or phone. All teachers have sent an email to the school email on file for grades 7 through 12. We thank you for your desire to get going again. We have heard so many stories of students ready to go! Makes us proud!

Child nutrition has been a primary focus the last couple of weeks. The kitchen staff and volunteers are averaging 180 breakfasts and nearly 200 lunches everyday. We want to give them a big thank you for their continued dedication to serving our students. 

Another Big Thank you to Boothill Distillery and their donation of hand sanitizer. Their donation will help us stay healthy so we can continue to serve our students.

The school office hours have changed. Mr. Bell and Mr. Smith are both at the school from 8:00AM until 12:00PM. However, the front office is closed. If you need something please call ahead and we will make arrangements for you.

Pick up plans for materials. Starting on Monday, April 6 we will be setting up times for parents to pick up materials left in the classrooms. We do ask that everyone understand that we have to limit the numbers of people we have in the building at any one time. The teachers are working on bagging up all classrooms materials for the elementary students. Staff will collect the materials for your student when you arrive and deliver those materials to you in your vehicle. Students in grades 7 - 12 will be allowed to pick up their own materials and clean out their lockers a few at a time following CDC guidelines.

• Monday April 6: PRE-K, 1st, 2nd
• Tuesday April 7: 3rd, 4th, 5th 
• Wednesday April 8: 6th, 7th, 8th
• Thursday April 9: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12^th

Tyrone Public School COVID-19 Update

Dear Tyrone Public School Students, Families and Community;

As you know, Governor Stitt  has declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19 or the coronavirus.  Soon thereafter, the State Board of Education voted to close all Oklahoma public schools, effective immediately, until at least April 6th in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19. While this mandated closure is currently for the two weeks, state officials have encouraged school administrators to plan for the possibility of long-term closures if it becomes necessary.  This is an unprecedented situation that is changing by the hour. As we receive additional guidance and support, we will notify you as soon as possible by using all of the communication methods available to us. We understand that you are as concerned as we are and want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to meet the needs of our students and staff.  

While this closure may be extended at some point, our primary focus right now is on how we will provide support for our students and staff during the announced closure that runs until April 6. Based upon information we have received from state officials, we can share the following updates at this time:

• Beginning Monday, March 23rd, we will provide free meals at the main cafeteria. Grab-&-Go breakfast and lunches will be available to any child 0-18 years of age from Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Applications, ID, and proof of income are not required.) 

• We will provide staff that will deliver the meals to you. Please stay in your car and we will assist you. Also, for now each child needs to be present to receive a meal.We are hopeful additional waivers will be in place to help with that situation. 

• If you are currently approved to have food delivered that service will continue to be provided.

• During the closure that runs until April 6, there will be no instruction, no grading, no extracurricular activities, events, or practices, no professional development for staff, and no staff attendance at conferences. ‘No instruction’ includes home-based, on-line, and digital learning.

• Based upon information we have at this time, we do not believe students or employees will be required to make-up missed days due to COVID-19. 

• All Tyrone employees will continue to be paid for the duration of the current state-mandated school closure. 

• For the duration of this closure, district operations will be significantly modified.  The majority of district employees will be working remotely. All offices and school buildings will be closed to the public. Any urgent concerns or questions you may have would be best and most effectively conveyed to us via email. For school-related questions or concerns, please use the email assigned to the school principal dsmith@tyronebobcats.org  for district-related questions.  Emails will be monitored daily and responses will be provided as soon as possible.

• We expect further guidance after the March 25th State Department Board of Education meeting concerning further closure of schools. We understand there are many questions concerning proms, graduation etc...At this time, we suggest that if you cancel any arrangements you have made for prom. Our intentions are to allow our seniors to take part in a graduation ceremony at some point. Please be patient as we work through all of these scheduling conflicts as they arise. 

• Tyrone Public School is grateful to our staff and community partners and volunteers and the work you do to help our students regularly. We know many of you are anxious to help. However, with the current CDC and state level restrictions in place, we are trying to be thoughtful about how to engage you. Additional details about the district’s response to COVID-19 will be addressed as we get updates. 

• Please continue to follow the health guidance that agencies are providing -- most especially coughing and sneezing into your elbow, appropriate handwashing, and social distancing.  For complete guidance, please visit any of the following sites:

Things are changing rapidly, but please rest assured that we are working daily to ensure our students and staff are being supported.
